দেশের বৃহত্তর জনগোষ্ঠীর কাছে আধুনিক ব্যাংকিং সেবা পৌঁছে দিতে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক দুটি ব্যাংককে এজেন্ট ব্যাংকিং কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার অনুমোদন দেয়। এই অনুমোদনের ফলে প্রাথমিক ভাবে ব্যাংক এশিয়া সারাদেশে ৩০টি এর এনআরবি কমার্শিয়াল ব্যাংক ২০টি এজেন্ট নিয়োগ করতে পারবে। এই অনুমোদনের আগে ২০১৩ সাল থেকে পাইলট প্রকল্প হিসেবে ব্যাংক এশিয়া মুন্সিগঞ্জ জেলায় এজেন্ট নিয়োগ করে তাদের মাধ্যমে এ কার্যক্রম পরিচালনা করে।
