প্রশ্নে বলা হচ্ছে, দুটি সংখ্যাকে কোনো নির্দিষ্ট ভাজক দিয়ে ভাগ করলে ভাগশেষ থাকে যথাক্রমে 35 এবং 30, আবার, সংখ্যা দুটির যোগফলকে ঐ একই ভাজক দিয়ে ভাগ করলে ভাগশেষ থাকে 20. ভাজক কত? ধরি, সংখ্যা দুটি যথাক্রমে x ও y এবং ভাজক a প্রশ্নমতে, xa = 35.......................(i)ya = 30.......................(ii)এবং x + ya = 20.........(iii) সেট তত্ত্বের সূত্র অনুযায়ী,a = xa×ya - x + ya .:. a = 35 + 30 - 20 = 45
