এখন পর্যন্ত গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাংলাদেশের সংবিধান ১৭ বার সংশোধন হয়েছে। আর ৮ম সংশোধনীর মাধ্যমে সংবিধানে রাষ্ট্রধর্ম হিসেবে ইসলামকে স্বীকৃতি দান করা হয়েছে। এ সংশোধনী পাস হয় ৭ জুন ১৯৮৮ এবং রাষ্ট্রপতির অনুমোদন লাভ করে ৯ জুন ১৯৮৮।
