The Kushan period is considered
the Golden Period of Gandhara. Peshawar
Valley and Taxila are lit tered with ruins of
stupas and monasteries of this period.
Gandharan art flourished and produced some of
the best pieces of Indian sculpture. Many
monuments were created to commemorate the
Jataka tales.The Gandhara civilization peaked
during the reign of the great Kushan king
Kanishka (128-151). The cities of Taxila
(Takshasila) at Sirsukh and Peshawar were built.
